The continuing story of The Winter Chronicles...a love story
   I recall it to be a heavily thatched, stone-built structure. It was reached by a tiny arched bridge spanning a stream that coursed through the woods and meandered away to meet a river some miles away.
   As I approached, my gaze was drawn to a girl -- the daughter of the household, I presumed -- standing in the garden beside a basket of logs. As I passed, 2he looked up and her dark brown eyes met, and held, my own. We exchanged a wave and bid each other a good afternoon. So taker with her was I, that as I passed into the trees on the other side of the clearing, I craned my neck for a final look at her. I can tell you, I was highly delighted to note that she, too, followed my progress with her eyes. And, as if it had happened just yesterday, I can feel my heart quickening again, just as it did then.
   Some say that the English rose is quite the prettiest of all flowers. How could I possibly disagree? For, although I did not yet know it, I had indeed found my very own English rose. Neither did I then know, however that it would be some time -- and a distressing time at that -- before my English rose would be truly my own. But believe me, reader, when I tell you that she is here, now, sitting beside me, and we have been husband and wife for many good years.
