Much was seen shooting deer in the forest, which was a serious affair; poachers were normally hung. Wardens patrolled the forests to ensure nobody was getting away with anything. But an outlaw who dared not show his face in an agricultural village, had no other source of nourishment. So, Much was stalking a deer and clearly shot it with a single arrow. Unfortunately, the wardens saw him do this, and were about to arrest him, when Robin Hood and Will Scarlett intervened. They knew what fate awaited this small, yet valiant poacher and so rescued him, out-running the pursuing wardens.
Like Much, Robin and Will now became outlaws themselves for aiding a poacher, and their names would be posted in all public places in Nottingham. Robin and Will didn't enter their new way of life lightly; they could no longer stand back and watch as people were systematically improverished and humiliated just to enrich the Sheriff of Nottingham and Prince John. Robin and Will never regretted saving Much's life because he repaid them a thousand times over with bravery and daring far greater than his diminutive form would lead one to expect.
