When the original Harvest Moon pub was demolished due to subsidence, this disused oast house was the obvious choice for its replacement. Although in a state of total disrepair, it was structurally sound and considered ideal for the job! After numerous fund raising events, enough money had been collected to pay for materials. The work was undertaken completely by volunteers. The Harvest Moon boasts great local ales, good traditional pub food and a warm friendly atmosphere. Its main attraction has to be the cameral obscura, built into the conical roof of the old building by a local camera historian. This slightly bizarre idea has proved to be a fascinating feature.
At the time of the harvest moon something magical occurs. The room is completely blacked out, allowing light to pass through a small hole in the roof's finial -- whereby an inverted image of the moon is projected onto the middle of the floor. This pub certainly lives up to its name!
