The Guardian Gate is the entrance to Guardian Castle and in David Winter's imagination is situated some way from the castle itself. You might wonder why -- but there's a perfectly reasonable explanation...

In the middle ages, when England was torn by civil war and ravaged by invading Saxons and Normans, the owner of a castle realised that he was not entirely safe behind the stout, stone walls that he had built. An enemy could lay siege to it. The easiest way to achieve this was to starve the occupants out, which could be done in a few weeks at no cost of life or limb to the invader. When this happened, the Lord in charge of the castle needed a tunnel so that he could escape. He would tell his people that he would raise an army to attack the invaders as soon as he emerged from the tunnel and sometimes he would do this. At others time he might forget and leave his followers to an unfortunate end.
The invaders were not so stupid as to not know about tunnels leading to places outside the castle walls and would be on their guard at all obvious places where the escape route might emerge. So it was necessary to have as many decoy places as possible so as to thin down the number of guards at the real exit point. Stealth and silent hand-to-hand fighting would be necessary before a clean getaway could be achieved. How many potential exit points to the secret tunnel can you find on David's "The Guardian Gate?"
