Edinburgh Gates were created to celebrate David's 25 years of sculpting his imaginative cottages. So much history lies behind Edinburgh Castle, and just as the city of Edinburgh felt the castle a fitting entranceway, so David feels the gates symbolize the entrance to his fascinating world of homes and castles.

Two models of Edinburgh Gates were created. The first just for those attending the dinner and a second with snow covering is available to all David's collectors.

Entrance to Edinburgh Castle The approach to Edinburgh Gates from Edinburgh City is by the Royal Mile, a cobbled street that passes St. Giles' High Kirk, John Knox House and the Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre.
On reaching the Esplanade in front of the gates it is easy to see why this was chosen as the site for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. The Tattoo is held here every year. The magnificent entrance provides a fitting backdrop to the spectacle. The picturesque gatehouse was added in 1888, and in keeping with the times, was designed to add to the appeal of the castle. The architect had total success and it provides a most romantic entrance to this historic castle.
