Although Daresbury Castle is one of David's fantasies, the village of Daresbury is real enough, with quite a claim to fame. For it was the birthplace of the Reverend Charles Lutwidge Dodgson -- better known to the world as Lewis Carroll, who gave us the much loved Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
The parsonage where Lewis Carroll was born has been demolished but, although he would never have been familiar with Daresbury Hall -- a fine Georgian house -- and certainly familiar with the local church. The latter has a particular appeal for all lovers of "Alice," for it has a memorial window in which the Cheshire Cat, the White Rabbit and other Carroll characters are depicted.
David has given us a flavour of the fantastical adventures dreamed up by the brilliant Oxford don, who wrote and lectured on mathematics. If you look carefully, you will discover some of the famous playing card symbols and other references to board games on Daresbury Castle.
