Although sculpted in 1989 (as a possible Guild exclusive), Bookends were not released until two years later. They were too lightweight to hold standard books in place, so John Hine withheld them whilst he penned twelve small books to complement the British Traditions collection. When displayed in the correct order the binders of the books cleverly form a picture featuring all the British Traditions pieces. Although the British Traditions books have been available for purchase individually, The Printers and The Bookbinders have always been sold as a pair.
