Mould 1 The Boat House has a variation of the thin rim of bricks around the top edges of the chinmey. On the original version, produced between June 1989 and May 1990, the bricks are sharply defined on both the inside and outside.
Mould 2 From May 1990 onwards, a bevel was added to the inside, sloping on all sides towards the centre. The change was made to prevent the rim from snapping off during demoulding. The Boat House also has a thick wodden post to the front of the piece which initially caused some production problems. A cut (known as a "shim") had to be made in the mould in order to demould the post intact and it was changed from a vertical to a diagonal cut several times.
