Sir Stanley Deadrock lead an adventurous life back in the 19th Century. As one of the early Colonial administrators he spent a considerable time in Africa and it was during his last trip that he purchased what he took to be the fossilized bones of the mythical Giant Roc Bird.
Despite the fact that previous buyers had judged the bones to be in fact Ostrich bones, Sir Stanley firmly believed he had some original Roc bones and furthermore he believed that they also belonged to the legendary Booly booly bird that was said to have been the magical guardian of the ancient tribe of people that once ruled this particular part of Africa.
Legend has it that the bird will return and Sir Stanley felt he knew just what to do to encourage it. He would use the bones as building materials for a magnificent new house that he was building back in England and as further comfort for the Roc he amended his architect's plans to include a high Roost in the form of a magnificent Castle Tower rising out the center of the building.
Now not being the wisest of fellows it is not surprising that halfway through this ambitious plan Sir Stanley started to run out of money. Not deterred, he simply decided not to finish the back part of the house and leave the rooms open as a cost-cutting measure.
Has the Roc appeared since the house was built? No one knows but on his second night in the House Sir Stanley disappeared and has never been seen since. The police were called but found no clues although they were puzzled by the large feathers found on top of the Castle Tower. Later analysis showed them to be Ostrich Feathers.
