Audrey's Tea Room is where afternoon tea can be taken at its best--scones with jam and fresh cream, cucumber sandwiches and a selection of cakes and biscuits, plus a fresh pot of perfectly made tea sipped from bone China cups. Customers sit at mahogany tables around the panoramic parlour window, conversations bubbling gently over this and that and steered occasionally by the sight of someone in the street outside.
On warm summer days there are tables in the tiny garden beyond the steps. The atmospherre is refined and delicate, with quietly spoken waitresses wearing crisply starch aprons and caps, efficiently supervised by the proprietress herself.
The name "Audrey" was chosen by John Hine and David Winter as a tribute to Audrey White, the very first painter of David Winter Cottages, who retired in 1991. Audrey would be at home in the atmosphere of a Tea Room, and dedicating this piece to her is a most appropriate choice.
